H.E.A.R.T. - Helping Ease Abuse-Related Trauma - is an auxiliary support group that raises funds to support client needs not traditionally funded by other sources.
Each year H.E.A.R.T. helps raise $100,000 in support of the VIP's clients. For example, tax-deductible donations from H.E.A.R.T. members allow a rape victim to leave the clinic in new underwear and sweatpants, and help to ensure immediate shelter and clothing for a mother and child fleeing a violent home. Funds help children who need tutors, bus passes and computers so they may succeed in school.
Simply Give or Get- H.E.A.R.T. members pledge a minimum annual commitment of $1,000. This commitment may come in a variety of forms including giving a donation personally or perhaps from a family foundation; and/or getting donations from friends, family members, or employers. Donations are tax-deductible.
H.E.A.R.T. Benefits- Once a year H.E.A.R.T. members attend a complimentary brunch to discuss critical and timely topics on child development, safety and health. The annual discussions are a rare opportunity to speak with world-renowned experts on a wide range of topics that affect family life.
The 2009 H.E.A.R.T. Brunch was held at the historic "La Casa de las Campanas", the private residence of VIP supporter Len Hill in Hancock Park. More than 75 women gathered to hear from VIP Executive Director Astrid Heppenstall Heger, M.D. and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist/author Sonia Nazario. Visit the H.E.A.R.T. website for photos and more information about this annual celebration.
