VIP Community Mental Health Center

The VIP Community Mental Health Center (VIP CMHC) is an exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works under the umbrella of the greater Violence Intervention Program. The mission of the VIP CMHC is to provide or arrange for the provision of mental health and support services to victims of family violence and sexual assault.

VIP CMHC offers mental health services for children, 0 to 21 years old, and their non-offending family members living in Los Angeles County. VIP CMHC provides an individualized and specialized approach that aims to help children who have experienced extreme trauma and abuse excel in life, school, their families, and the community. The VIP CMHC offers a proven set of services built on an evidence-based practices approach. Services include:

  • S Mark Taper CenterMulti-lingual, culturally sensitive individual and family therapy. Services available in: English, Spanish, Persian, Armenian, French, Mandarin, Cantonese, German, Hungarian, Norwegian, and Dutch.
  • Group therapy for children and adults exposed to domestic violence and child sexual abuse
  • Specialized "Birth to 5" therapy program
  • Tramua Focused-Cognitive Behavorial Therapy
  • "Families Moving Forward" - specialized intervention for families of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders
  • 24-hour/7-day a week crisis intervention
  • Developmental screenings and referrals
  • Occupational therapy
  • Psychological assessments and testing
  • Psychiatric evaluation and medication support
  • Case management and assistance with housing and basic needs
  • Health and parenting education
  • Mentoring and tutoring
  • Violence Prevention, youth development and educational enrichment programs

 

VIP CMHC clinical staff provide services on-site and in schools as well as at the VIP's Forensic Medical Clinic as children are triaged after trauma. The VIP CMHC staff are experienced licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and occupational therapists who work as a multi-disciplinary team with each other and with the child's doctors and nurses, probation officers, and school personnel on individualized treatment plans in order to best achieve the child's goals.


Eligibility & Referrals

VIP CMHC services are available to children from 0 to 21 years of age who are eligible for Medi-Cal. The VIP CMHC is a Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health service provider. Referrals are made by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Department of Children and Family Services, Office of Probation, Los Angeles Unified School District, foster family agencies, and family members.
