Although programs had evolved for children, adolescents and adults still had to wait long hours in hospital emergency rooms for evaluation and treatment of sexual assault. In 1995, the Sexual Assault Center opened to provide expert forensic evaluations of all rape victims regardless of age or gender. These evaluations are provided away from emergency rooms and focus on expert forensic and medical examinations that protect the rights of the victim. Working as a team with legal and judicial systems has diminished victim blaming while promoting effective investigations and prosecutions.
