Health Care for Foster Children

Daniel was abused by his father and put in a foster home where the parents promised they would take good care of him. The foster care system thought he was safe, but he was being re-abused in his new home.

There are thousands of children in foster care in Los Angeles County. Each one has complex medical and mental health issues that often go undiagnosed or forgotten as they move from one placement to the next, one health care provider to the next, or never even see a doctor.

To prevent children in out of home placements from being neglected, the VIP, in partnership with the Department of Children and Family Services, the Department of Health Services, and the Department of Mental Health, created the HUBs, a full-service health care system for children in or at risk for out of home placements. This system has been replicated throughout the County of Los Angeles so that each child in the system can go through a HUB and receive comprehensive services with continuity of care.

The HUB at VIP currently sees approximately 1,000 children each month.

What is the VIP HUB?
