Anna sat there with both of her arms in splints, a bandage wrapped around her head. The x-ray technician tried but failed to communicate with her. Thrown down the stairs of her apartment by her son-in-law, she was afraid to tell anyone because she had no place else to go.

Family violence impacts all members of the community including the elderly and handicapped. In an effort to build an accessible and appropriate response to this type of abuse, the VIP partnered with Adult Protective Services (APS) in 1999 to create the first hospital-based multidisciplinary team for elderly and dependent adults.

In addition to serving patients at LAC+USC Medical Center, this team provides much-needed outreach to the elderly and disabled in their homes and community. The tradition of quality medical, forensic and legal advocacy partnered with social and mental health is now extended to this growing population of patients.

Please download a copy of an Elder and Dependent Adult Program brochure for a complete description and list of services.
