In May 2003, Helping Ease Abuse-Related Trauma, or H.E.A.R.T.,
was established to make a dramatic and thoughtful impact on
the lives of abused children and the moms who strive to keep
their children safe. H.E.A.R.T. is an auxiliary support group
benefiting the Violence Intervention Program (VIP).
Each year H.E.A.R.T. helps raise $100,000 in support of the
VIP. Annual donations are used to support client needs not
traditionally funded by other sources. For example, tax-deductible
donations from H.E.A.R.T. members allow a rape victim to leave
the clinic in new underwear and sweatpants, and help to ensure
immediate shelter and clothing for a mother and child fleeing
a violent home. Funds help children who need tutors, bus passes
and computers so they may succeed in school.
Simply Give or Get- H.E.A.R.T. members pledge
a minimum annual commitment of $1,000. This commitment may
come in a variety of forms including giving
a donation personally or perhaps from a family foundation
and/or getting donations from friends,
family members, and employers and through other creative ways.
Donations are tax-deductible.
H.E.A.R.T. Benefits- Once a year H.E.A.R.T.
members attend a complimentary brunch to discuss critical
and timely topics on child development, safety and health.
The annual discussions are a rare opportunity to speak with
world-renowned experts on a wide range of topics that affect
family life. H.E.A.R.T. does not host fundraisers or ask members
for any other contributions.
